In the room
- A bed (at least 90 × 200 cm, ideally 140 cm wide) with a good new mattress and a mattress protector.
- A wardrobe or a clothes rail, and a shelf.
- A desk and a proper desk chair: most tenants work or study from their room.
- A ceiling light and a desk lamp, curtains or blinds, and a mirror.
In the shared rooms
- Kitchen basics: pots, pans, a kettle, cutlery and plates for everyone, and a fridge shelf per person.
- A vacuum cleaner, a mop, cleaning supplies, a drying rack, and bins for sorting the rubbish.
- Smoke detectors in the bedrooms and hallway (required by law), and a small first-aid kit.
- Good Wi-Fi that reaches every room.
Spending well
- Buy the mattress and the chair new. Almost everything else can be second-hand, for example from Kleinanzeigen.
- Pick sturdy, simple furniture that's easy to repair: it will be moved and used by several people.
- Make a list of what the room comes with and add it to the contract, so nothing is unclear when someone moves out.
